Introduction
When you shop with Epic Express or Epic On The Go, you may see a temporary pending authorization hold before the final charge posts to your card account. This article explains the difference between a pending hold and a posted transaction, what to expect during settlement, and when to contact Epic Support.
NOTE: If you shopped at an Epic Market kiosk where you scanned your products before paying, these transactions do not preauthorize. The amount you see pending should be the same as the final amount charged.
Pending authorization hold
A pending authorization hold is a temporary amount placed on your card while the payment is being processed. It may appear before the final transaction is completed and can sometimes differ from the amount on your receipt.
Final posted transaction
The final posted transaction is the completed charge that settles to your card account after processing is finished. This is the amount that should reflect your actual purchase once the transaction has fully settled.
How to tell the difference
- Pending holds are temporary and may still change or drop off automatically. It is generally indicated as "pending" with your bank or otherwise displayed separately.
- Posted transactions are final and appear after the payment has settled.
- If the pending amount is different from your receipt total, wait for settlement before taking action.
- If the posted charge still does not match your purchase after settlement, Epic Support can review it.
What to do if the amounts do not match
If the charge is still incorrect after the transaction has finished settling, contact Epic Support with the following details so we can investigate:
- Store location
- Purchase date
- Approximate time of purchase
- Last four digits of the card used (or device account number if mobile wallet was used)
Additional information
Pending authorization holds are common in card processing and usually resolve on their own. In most cases, no action is needed.
