What is Epic On The Go?

Epic On The Go is a public convenience store designed for quick, checkout-free shopping. The store offers grab-and-go snacks, beverages and other convenience items. The store is operated by Frictionless Retail Associates Limited and the technology is powered by Amazon's Just Walk Out to provide a truly check-out free shopping experience.

 

How do I shop?

Tap an accepted credit card (physical or mobile wallet) at the entrance, enter the store as an individual or as a group, and shop normally. If you change your mind during your shopping trip about a particular item, return the item to its original shelf. When you are finished shopping, simply exit through the exit door. The technology determines the items associated with your shopping trip and processes payment automatically.

 

Do I need an Amazon account or an app?

No. An Amazon account, Amazon Prime membership and a special shopping app are not required for the standard card-entry experience at this store.

 

Is Epic On The Go an Amazon store?

No. Epic on the Go is independently operated by Frictionless Retail Associates Limited. Amazon provides the Just Walk Out technology that enables the checkout-free experience.

 

What payment methods are accepted?

Currently, the store only accepts supported credit cards. experience.

 

Why do I tap my payment method before entering?

Your payment method starts and authorizes your shopping session. The system then associates the items taken during that session with the payment method used to enter.

 

Can I use a mobile wallet?

The entry pedestal supports contactless credit card payment methods where enabled. Follow the instructions shown on the entrance terminal for the payment methods accepted at the store.

 

What happens if I pick something up and put it back?

If you change your mind, return the item to its original shelf. Just Walk Out technology is designed to recognize when products are taken and when they are returned, so you are charged for the items you leave the store with. The store will not issue refunds if you decide to enter a second time and put the items you purchased in the first trip back. 

 

Can I shop with my family or friends?

Yes. A group can enter on one shopping session. Items taken by members of that group are associated with the payment method used for entry. Unrelated shoppers who want separate receipts should start separate shopping sessions.

 

 What if my child picks up an item?

Items taken as part of your group shopping session may be associated with your payment method. If you do not want the item, return it to its original shelf before leaving the store.

 

 How does the store know what I took?

Just Walk Out technology uses computer vision technology, a blend of cameras, sensors, and AI to understand product interactions and maintain a virtual cart for each shopping session. This replaces the need to scan every item at a traditional checkout.

 

Does the store use facial recognition?

No. Amazon states that Just Walk Out technology does not use facial recognition or other biometric information to identify shoppers. The system associates the shopping session with the payment method used for entry.

Why are there cameras in the store?

The overhead cameras are part of the checkout system. Together with other technology, they help determine when products are taken from or returned to shelves so customers can shop without scanning each item.

 

How is my information protected?

Amazon maintains security controls for the Just Walk Out service, including access controls, encryption, monitoring, vulnerability management, incident response and device security. The Just Walk Out service has also undergone an independent SOC 2 Type 2 examination covering security, availability and confidentiality controls.

 

Does Metrolinx process my store purchase?

No. Metrolinx does not operate the Just Walk Out technology or process Epic on the Go retail transactions. Questions about purchases, receipts, refunds or store operations should be directed to Epic on the Go customer support.

 

How do I get a receipt?

After shopping, visit justwalkout.com/receipts and follow the instructions to locate your receipt. A QR code linking to the receipt page is also be posted at the store.

 

What if I think I was charged incorrectly?

Contact Epic on the Go customer support and provide your receipt or transaction details where possible. The support team can review the transaction and assist with eligible corrections or refunds.

 

Can I return or exchange an item?

Contact Epic on the Go customer support for assistance. Returns and refunds are subject to the store's applicable policy and product eligibility.

 

Is the store accessible?

The store has been designed for the Union Station Bus Terminal environment with accessible circulation and entry/exit considerations incorporated into the project. Customers who require assistance can contact Epic on the Go support or speak with an on-site ambassador when one is present.

 

Will an employee always be in the store?

No. The store is designed to operate without a traditional cashier. Ambassadors will be on site temporary for customer assistance and you may occasionally see staff restocking, merchandising, and cleaning.

 

 What products are available?

The assortment focuses on convenient grab-and-go items such as cold beverages, snacks, confectionery, packaged foods, and selected convenience products. The assortment may change based on demand, seasonality and availability.
