3.2 Why do I have to tap my payment card before entering, and why is there a temporary authorization?

Tapping an accepted card starts your shopping session and requests a temporary hold, called a pre-authorization, The pre-authorization confirms that the card is valid and has enough available credit or funds to begin a shopping session. Access is granted only when the pre-authorization is approved. This is not a charge.

If you leave without buying anything, the hold is released. The pre-authorization charge gets cancelled after the shopping trip is finalized and an empty cart is confirmed. If the cancellation has not been initiated within 72 hours, Amazon automatically sends that cancellation request as a backup measure.

It does not mean:

  • The hold will disappear within 72 hours.
  • Amazon directly releases the money.
  • Amazon contacts the customer’s bank.

Once the cancellation is sent, your financial institution can begin releasing the reserved funds on your card. If the hold continues to appear, you are responsible for contacting your own financial institution. Epic Ambassadors and Epic Support cannot remove a hold from your card account.
